Established in 1951, IOM is the leading

does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.
Under the overall supervision of the Head of
Sub-Office and the direct supervision of Migration Health Officer (MHO) at
Jigjiga, the successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out the
following duties and responsibilities in relation to the Migration Health
Assessment Centre (MHAC) in in Jijiga, Ethiopia.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
1. Perform daily nursing activities in the
Migration Health Assessment Clinic (MHAC) to fulfil the technical requirements
of the resettlement countries in the areas of:
1. Medical examinations,
1. Such as checking vital signs, weight, height,
visual acuity;
2. Blood, urine or sputum collection as required;
2. Imaging;
3. Laboratory testing;
4. Vaccinations;
5. TB management;
6. Treatment and referrals;
7. Pre-departure procedures and medical
movements;
8. Documentation, certification and information
transmission; and,
9. Other technical areas as may be required.
2. Provide information and detailed explanations
to the migrants and/or refugees in relation to:

The migration health
assessment process; and,
·
Treatments and
referrals.
3. Ensure proper identification and follow-up by:
·
Comprehensive history
taking;
·
Accurate and thorough
Bio-data collection;
·
Ensuring ID
verification for each step of the health assessment process; and,
·
Keeping a register of
applicants who undergo health investigations and testing.
4. Follow and implement the Health Assessment
Programme’s check lists and SOP’s and maintain standard universal precautions
within MHAC.
5. Verify samples of sputum, blood or others are
properly transported to the laboratory or previously designated location.
6. Maintain and monitor the MHAC pharmacy, stock,
medical kits and emergency kits within the MHAC and for medical escorts if
applicable.
7. Provide pre and/or post counselling to
migrants or refugees on TB or HIV education, prevention and management as
appropriate.
8. Prepare administrative reports and program
updates as necessary.
9. Support the planning and execution of mobile
missions if applicable.
10. Assist with pre-departure documents, briefings
and preparations as necessary.
11. Perform medical escort duties when required to
ensure migrants receive continued care throughout all phases of migration
(before departure, during the journey and at the final destination).
12. Maintain collaborative relationships with various
partners to facilitate the follow up and relevant information sharing. Partners
include internal IOM departments, other health providers, panel physicians,
embassies other UN agencies or NGO’s and others as applicable.
13. Collect statistical information and share with
the Senior Migration Health Nurse or MHO as per preset and agreed upon format.
14. Perform other duties as may be assigned
About
You
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education
- Nursing Degree with a minimum of three years of
relevant clinical experience and a valid license to practice nursing in
Ethiopia.
Experience
- Three years of professional experience in nursing.
- Excellent technical skills, including in phlebotomy.
- Training or working experience in the areas of
Tuberculosis management, mass immunizations, communicable diseases,
laboratory testing, or public health is an advantage.
- For this position, fluency in English, Somali and
Amharic is required (oral and written).

- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Nursing from an
accredited academic institution in Nursing in countries where the Diploma
allows to fulfil the full scope of responsibilities defined in PDs.
- A valid license to practice nursing in the country of
duty station.

of relevant clinical experience and for Diploma holder a minimum of five
years of relevant clinical experience.

1. Translate correctly and accurately from
English into one (or more, as an advantage), and vice versa, of the following
languages of importance (Swahili/Somali/Dinka/Nuer/Amharic/Tigringa/Oromo etc.)
during information sessions, pre/post-test counselling, medical history
obtaining, laboratory tests and procedures, and physical examination, as
conducted by IOM medical staff, with the following considerations:
- Translate the medical personnel to the applicant and
applicant to the medical personnel, capturing the accurate meaning of
information provided and needed to be passed on.
- While the translator is not required to know scientific
terminology, s/he must be capable of clearly expressing the statements and
messages of medical nature, including but not limited to: sexual
intercourse, behaviour and parts; sexually transmitted diseases; use /
abuse of substances, mental disorders, cardiovascular diseases signs and
symptoms, neurological diseases signs and symptoms, etc.
- Translator must hold with utmost
respect/confidentiality any information shared during physical
examination. Failure to do so represents major breach of the code of
conduct and standards IOM adheres to.
1. Assist with directing applicants ‘flow or
minor messenger’s tasks to the different unit of the IOM Medical processing
centre.
2. Assist on the referral process by accompanying
applicant for consultation with the medical specialist at non-IOM medical
facility.
3. Assist on the Receptionist and Data processing
assistant on appointment of the health assessment / follow
up, registration of applicant, preparing documents for the medical
examination and dispatch of the medical document.
4. Perform any other related duties as assigned
by the direct supervisor

Background
Under the overall supervision of the Senior
Program Manager of the Peace and Development Coordination Unit (PDCU) and the
Head of Programs of IOM Ethiopia, the direct supervision of the Program Officer
– Peacebuilding; and, in collaboration with relevant Units, Departments, and
the Head of Sub Offices in the regions, the successful candidate will be
responsible and accountable for the development, implementation, monitoring,
and evaluating peacebuilding and social cohesion activities of the Mission.
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
1. Research and present information on policy at
the regional level on conflict management and peacebuilding.
2. Provide technical guidance in some thematic
areas of the program such as the role of women and youth in conflict prevention
and peacebuilding.
3. Work closely with the federal and regional
governments, partner agencies to organize dialogue and policy forums for
conflict prevention and peacebuilding.
4. Participate in the development and adjustment
of work plans, project budgets, Monitoring and Evaluation tools and standard
operations procedures.
5. Coordinate the collection, verification and
analysis of data and background information; update information management
systems and social media platforms on project related activities including
project awareness and visibility, summaries, press releases and other relevant
materials.
6. Coordinate timely preparation and
dissemination of project reports in accordance with IOM procedures and donor
requirements.
7. Liaise and coordinate with donors, partners,
United Nations agencies, local authorities and stakeholders and government
counterparts.
8. Contribute to the planning, development,
organization and delivery of capacity building activities targeting IOM staff,
government and civil society partners, implementing partners and communities.
9. Attend relevant conferences, workshops,
working groups, interagency coordination meetings, and other forums.
10. Participate in the preparation of project
proposals and a diverse range of communication products, concept notes and
other planning documents.
11. Supervise and provide training and technical
guidance to project staff.
12. Undertake duty travel, within and outside of
the country, relating to project implementation, monitoring visits, project
assessments, liaison with counterparts, etc., as may be required.
13. Perform other related duties as
required.

You
Required Qualifications and Experience
Educational Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in political or social sciences,
International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human
Rights, Law or related fields from an accredited academic institution with
two years of relevant professional experience; or,
- Master’s degree in the above-mentioned fields
Experience
- Experience in liaising with governmental authorities,
national/international institutions, United Nations agencies and
non-governmental organizations.
- Experience in working with migrants, refugees,
internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable
groups; and, Prior work experience with international humanitarian
organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a
multi-cultural setting is an advantage
Skills
- Ability to provide technical guidance on peace building
related activities of the projects.
- Understands and masters quickly the context and the
environment of work.
- Experienced in organizing capacity building training
for stakeholders on conflict management and peacebuilding for sustainable
peace and social cohesion;
- Skilled in project management and has ability to
prepare quarter and semi-annual project progress reports directed towards
the project reviews;
- Ability to work independently according to established
structures and guidelines, including administrative requirements, and
maintain coordination with colleagues and supervisor.
- Effectively manages own work related to multiple tasks
or activities and is independently able to prioritize amongst tasks.
- Knowledge of financial rules and regulations
- Responds positively to critical feedback and differing
points of view.
- Adapts well to a changing environment and demonstrates
flexibility.
Position specific skills, for example:
- In depth knowledge of the broad range of migration
related subject areas dealt with by the Organization; and,
- Knowledge of UN and bilateral donor programming.
Languages
- Fluency in English Language is required (oral and
written).
- Working knowledge of other Ethiopian local languages is
an advantage
