Who we are
SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an
International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s
Villages International Federation. We started our humanitarian work in Ethiopia
with the opening of our first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in
1974. Since then, we have expanded our programs to different regions where
there are significant needs for intervention and where we believe we can work
in partnership with all relevant actors to bring sustainable positive outcomes
for children’s and young people.
Today, we have grown significantly to meet the
persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental
care and those that are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close
collaboration with international donors, local government, and community-based
organizations across seven program locations; we aspire that every child grows
up with love, respect, and security.
Why do we need you?
We are looking for a Cashier who is responsible
for the efficient and satisfactory provision of all cashier services. The
incumbent is responsible for the daily cash collections, payments, and postings,
keeping track of these accounts using the standard SOS Children’s Villages in
Ethiopia tools and formats, and ensuring controls over cash are adequately
maintained. The post holder also performs other related activities as requested
by the line manager/s.
The incumbent is required to carry out his/her
duties following the SOS Children’s Villages Safeguarding policies and
regulations, the Code of Conduct, the values-based competency frame “Living our
Values” and any further international and local regulation that influences
safeguarding at SOS Children’s Villages.

Your role?
While working with us a Cashier you will be in
charge of the following,
Cash Management
- Ensure the petty cash is available and stored in a
secure safe.
- Prepare cash payment vouchers for all cash payments
made by the National Office.
- Responsible for collecting cash on behalf of SOS Children’s
Villages in Ethiopia and issuing official receipts from the organization.
- Replenish petty cash fund as per the organization
“petty cash” fund policy and procedure.
- Perform daily entries of all National Office cash
transactions in Cashbook Excel.
- Ensure timely update and completeness of all the Cash
and Float Control sheets.
- Conduct daily /weekly and month-end cash count and file
the signed hard copy for internal & external auditors.
- Facilitate payment for National Office training,
meetings, and events, and ensure timely liquidations.
- Notifies the Finance Manager/Head of Finance Service of
any overage or shortage incurred.
- Effects payment of bills such as telephone,
electricity, water, etc. upon approval of the same by the concerned
official.
- Processes the payment of government liabilities such as
income tax, withholding tax (WHT), pension, etc., upon approval by the
concerned co-workers.
CONTROLS AND SAFEGUARDING
- Follow up on outstanding advances with staff and ensure
timely liquidations.
- Report/update outstanding advances to the Finance
Manager on a weekly basis.
- Collect weekly/ monthly cash counts for all SOS
Children’s Villages program offices for central filing. Keep clear
communication and tracker for missing Count Reports.
- Ensure all financial records, including advance
liquidations and cash count reports, are maintained in a manner that
facilitates easy access and review during internal or external audits.
FINANCE DOCUMENTATION
- Label all Cash and/or Bank book box files clearly as
per SOS Children’s Villages in Ethiopia’s Archiving policy.
- File all bank Transaction Vouchers in numeric order and
should be neat & manageable.
- Scan all financial documents and upload them to the
designated folder for uploading to SOS Children’s Villages in Ethiopia’s
financial management software on a weekly basis.
OTHER DUTIES
- Collect and drop signed bank letters to relevant banks
on a timely manner.
- Carry out other related activities in line with
month-end and year-end task plans.
- Adhere to the standards of conduct outlined in the
Accountability and Good Management and SOS Children’s Villages in Ethiopia
Code of Conduct regulation.
- Undertake any other duties as may reasonably be
assigned by the line manager/s
SAFEGUARDING (CHILD, YOUNG PEOPLE, ADULT AND
ASSET)
- Ensure all financial exchanges are based on the
Financial Manual and proper measures are in place for the proper usage of
funds.
- Responsible for showing behavior and all relationships
are based on the Sexual Misconduct Regulation, Child Protection Policy and
in line with the Code of Conduct and that they adhere to it in every
situation.
- Responsible for ensuring behaviors and all
relationships are based on safeguarding and in line with the Code of
Conduct and adhering to it in every situation.
- Conduct themselves per the Code of Conduct,
Safeguarding, and Local/Country Policies and Procedures.
- Be vigilant about any possible form of abuse/harm,
neglect, harassment, or exploitation against, children, youth, and adults
in personal and professional lives.
- Report any safeguarding incident or concern within 24
hours to the Incident Management Team, focal person, or concerned party
through the defined channels for reporting the allegation.
About
You
Must Criteria
- Education: BA in Accounting, Business Administration,
or other relevant field of study
- Experience: Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in a
similar position, preferably in the NGOs organization
- Knowledge of cash handling procedures including petty
cash and payments.
Desired
- Software: proficiency in MS applications especially
Excel, Word, PowerPoint and D-365
- Communication: strong interpersonal skills with the
ability to communicate effectively with different stakeholders.
- Experience working with non-governmental organizations
in similar positions
